Companies use loop hole to send Junk mail to Register of Electors

Legal challenges by companies have just opened up a legal loop hole allowing companies to prevent Electoral Registration Officers at councils around the country from "pre ticking" the "No junk mail" Edited register box. Pre ticking the box meant council no longer had to employ staff to pass on the contact details to companies interested in spamming junk mail to households.

We need new registration, to close this loop hole being exploited by companies. This is almost as bad as Royal Mail junk mail "Delivered by" scheme.

Workaround is, never respond to any junk mail received through the post.  Like spam in your inbox, its the people that reply that make it a revenue stream for the unscrupulousness senders. Also only buy products from companies that you have approached yourself, online, or on the high street.

I found out about this loop hole exploit in letter from Electoral Registration Officer at Westminster Council dated 1 Oct 2013.

Campaign for regular rate phone numbers

I've noticed so many companies use phone numbers that are charged at premium prices by mobile operators.

Do mobile operators and the companies split the profits from these numbers?

0800, 0870, 0844, 0845 all get charged at a high cost. They are excluded from my contract call package.

Therefore, I today launch a campaign, as a consumer champion. Companies should provide regular rate phone numbers to their customers. If they want to offer a backup 0845 number, they can do so, but they should at first offer the regular phone number.

Workaround is to use SayNoTo0870 in the meantime!
